Coming to terms with a cancer diagnosis can be challenging, it often brings new emotions and feelings as well as change.
Counselling is a talking therapy that allows you to discuss and explore your concerns and feelings in a confidential environment. A counsellor is trained to listen to what you are saying and help untangle your feelings and worries, you will also have the space to express your emotions without fear of upsetting anyone. All of our Counsellors have either completed a BACP/UKCP accredited course or are in supervised counselling training.
1:1 Counselling
At the Fountain Centre we offer face-to-face counselling in one of our dedicated counselling rooms. Patients are offered up to 12 sessions and carers are offered 8 sessions.
These are regular consecutive sessions with the same counsellor throughout.
Virtual Counselling
At the Fountain Centre we offer virtual counselling via various platforms including, Zoom, Microsoft Teams and the telephone. Patients are offered up to 12 sessions and carers are offered 8 sessions.
These are regular consecutive sessions with the same counsellor throughout.
Ward Listening
We offer a friendly confidential listening service to all cancer patients on Onslow ward at RSH.
If you are in hospital and feel it would be helpful to chat with someone, share concerns you have or gain some information, you can speak to one of our skilled listening volunteers.
Rapid Response
Sometimes support is needed sooner rather than later. This can be for many reasons, including anxiety over a recent cancer diagnosis or if a family member’s cancer prognosis has worsened.
We provide a rapid response service that aims to see families within 48 hours of being referred. These families usually have a loved one who is currently an in-patient at the Royal Surrey or are able to come to the Fountain Centre.
